The City of Sydney and NSW Government backed Flow Festival in the streets of Darlinghurst features eight intimate music stages and a vinyl record market, committed to showcasing sustainable event outcomes.
Integrating 3 neighbouring venues with a history supporting progressive artists - Captain Cook, Tap House, Flinders - the collaborative event supports a diverse and vibrant music and arts culture for residents and visitors.
The Festival will be showcasing the very best of its music programming for the runners making their way down the first kilometre of the City2Surf 2019
2E: Pipers of Distinction
Pipers of Distinctionare one of the most well known pipe bands in Australia, with over 45 years of experience. They have worked with worldwide recognized artists, such as Sir Paul McCartney, Invocare, Jimmy Barnes, Bryan Adams, and John Farnham.
3E: Fire and Rescue Band
The Fire and Rescue NSW Bandis Australia’s most entertaining brass bands. The mission of the band is to provide public education on fire prevention and safety awareness to the community and to promote the Brigades as a world class organization through their music.
The band has recently participated in China for the 30th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between countries, the Blasmusik festival in Bruck-an-der-Mur in Austria and the 10th Zurich Police Music Festival.
4E: Afro Brasiliana and Eastside 89.7FM
Afrobrasiliana is a collective of DJs and record collectors focusing on Tropical dance floor sounds from Africa, Latin America, The Caribbean and beyond.
Specializing in old and new Tropical sounds from many of their favorite musical hot spots they play host to regular sessions where they explore these vibes and rhythms through music, dance and good times.
Eastside FMis a community radio station broadcasting from Paddington in Sydneys Eastern Suburbs for over 30 years. The station is an established cultural icon with a loyal following of listeners engaging around arts, jazz music, world music, the blues, soul music, hip hop, funk and electronic sounds.
5E: Sam Joole
Sam Jooleis an Australian-based Singer / Songwriter. He has been touring, performing, recording and composing music across the world for the last decade.
Sams latest individual album - "The Crescent and The Moon"- was recorded in South America and LA and mastered in Australia and London. These acoustic and live recordings are Sam's most powerful collection of songs to date. They are personal, honest and accessible.
Sam draws heavily from Folk / Pop traditions, you can find hints of Blues, Country and Soul, as well as Afro Celtic Patterns and Classical Melodies
6E: Australian Army Rock Band
The Australian Army Bandis made up of 11 separate bands, both regular and reserve, located all around Australia. Army bands can be found in each capital city as well as in Wagga Wagga, Townsville and Newcastle.
The Australian Army Band is tasked with maintaining Esprit De Corps among troops, as well as engaging with the community, and being the public face of the Army.
Bands contribute directly to the wellbeing of the Army and the community through participation in Military ceremonies and parades, Regal, Vice-Regal, Federal, State and Territory Government ceremonial functions, music education programs, concerts and community activities.
7E: NSW Police Rock Band
The NSW Police Forceproudly boasts the country’s oldest concert band, formed in 1895. It is a full-time unit of the NSW Police Force comprising of 30 players. Under the Command of Senior Sergeant Murray Mayday, the Musical Direction of Conductor John Saunders, and featuring our Award Winning vocalist Belinda Adams, the band fulfils over 220 engagements each year. The band boasts great diversity and can provide musical support as a Concert band, Parade band, Big band, Rock band, Jazz combo, Dixie & Ragtime groups as well as Wind, Brass, Clarinet Quintets along with varied duo’s & soloists.
Sincopa is Australia’s #1 DJ Band, fusing the incredible talents of a DJ, a Saxophonist and a Percussionist to deliver the ultimate musical performance. Expect a high energy show, containing a fun upbeat mix of the most popular party anthems that everyone will run, walk, dance and sing along to. Sincopa are renowned for their innovative & interactive performance joined by their spectacular stage set up that will always provide a WOW factor.
Stayfly Sydney is a collective representing female artists of different crafts and skills, working as a platform to encourage collaborations between creatives by creating spaces and opportunities for female and queer artists to showcase.
This stage at the City 2 Surf presented by Stayfly Sydney will have a vibrant and fun energy with the all-girl street performance crew Lumi Spinners bringing their interactive and playful show, and music by the Stayfly Sydney sound system FLY WAVES bringing DJ’s and emcees from their local community radio show.
12E: Inner West Community Band
The Inner West Community Bandcovers a huge variety of repertoire from classical & folk to jazz, pop and film music, with more than 40 musicians participating in the band.
IWCB aims to provide community members of all ages & backgrounds the opportunity to play, enjoy and perform great music, while having fun and becoming better musicians. The band provides a musical presence within the community, and engaging a diverse audience through the performance of music from many different styles and cultures, in a great range of settings.
13E: Sydney Soul Weekender
The Sydney Soul Weekenderis a fantastic annual event which brings together rare soul DJs and dancers from all over Australia to share their passion for soul music. Now in its 11th year, the Weekender takes over three venues where around 30 DJ’s play their expensive and rare Northern Soul and Modern Soul records from the 1960’s and 1970’s.
Northern soul is a music and dance movement that emerged in Northern England in the late 1960s from the British mod scene as a particular style of black American soul music based on the heavy beat and fast tempo of the mid-1960s Tamla Motown sound. There’s a huge Northern Soul scene in Australia, first imported by ex-pat poms and then adopted by the mod scene in Australian capital cities in the 1980’s.
14E: Inna Riddim & Breakneck
Two of Sydneys best Drum and Bass crews Inna Riddim & Breakneck Entertainmentare combining their high energy DJ and MC heavyweight vibes to fire up runners in this years City 2 Surf.
15E: Local Vocal Youth Bands
Co presented by Waverley Council Music Program and Local Vocal agency, this live band stage features the best emerging band talent from the local youth music programs across BayFest (Rose Bay Secondary College), WAYS / BLYMP, Bondi WAVE at the Bondi Pavilion, and Home Grown.
16E: Uke Junction
Uke Junction is a local eastside Sydney ukulele based rock n roll band bringing the best covers and vibes to the City2Surf runners.
17E: Robbers Dog Jazz Band
The Robbers Dog, a name taken from an Australian colloquial expression, is a jazz band formed by clarinetist Rod Lawlis in 1970. Since then they have been entertaining audiences throughout Sydney and are the longest running on course entertainment band in the City 2 Surf having played for runners for almost 30 years.
18E: DBR DJs
Bondi Beach Radio (BBR)is a community based fiercely independent on-line radio station focused on integrating and enhancing the unique eastside Sydney independent underground music, arts, and cultural experience live from their North Bondi studio and mobile rigs.
With one of the healthiest radio show grids in the country, the BBR DJs are known for being some of the best track selectors for any occassion
19E: The Crawfish Po'Boys
As a trumpeter he’s performed with Tijuana cartel, Ed Kuepper/The Aints, Caravãna Sun, Hot Potato Band & Low Down Riders and now Eamon Dilworth presents his solo project 'The Crawfish Po’Boys'. Inspired by the sounds of New Orleans incorporating street beats, funk & jazz giving an infectious feeling of happiness and make you want to dance.
20E: Latin America Festival & Bateria 61
Bateria 61 is a Samba band based in Sydney, Australia, playing mainly Samba Batucada, the uplifting high energy sound of the famous carnival of Rio de Janeiro, with a bit of Samba Reggae and other styles.
Bateria 61 have featured in the parade and main stage performances at the longest running Latin American Festival in Australia at Bondi Beach the past few years.
21E: Electric Gardens
Now in its 5th year, the Centennial Park (eastside Sydney) based Electric Gardens festival is a boutique event showcasing the very best house electronic music.
Renowned for their continual support of Sydneys grass roots electronic music scene, Electric Gardens is bringing their Locals Lounge vibe to energise the City2Surf runners in the final kilometre of the fun run.
FINISH LINE: Ricky Nifo Band
Rapidly making a name for being one of Sydney’s best and most popular bands for weddings, corporate events, parties and venues, the Ricky Nifo lead band will be providing the music for the celebrations in the finish line village for the 2019 City2Surf.
