Event Rules

The Sun-Herald City2Surf VR event rules are available below, ensure you read and understand these rules. 

  • The information on how to enter and the details about the Event forms part of these Event Rules.

  • USM Events uses a third-party payment facilitator, Register Now Pty Ltd (ACN 120 251 489) (‘Register Now’), and a booking fee of 3.3% is included in all entry fees and add on prices.

  • Event-related goodies included with entry purchase (medal and athlete gift) will be shipped to each Participant’s physical mailing address within thirty (30) days of the conclusion of the Event. Please make sure your registered address is correct.

  • Medal Tag orders will be sent out after the Event is completed and ship globally. These will be posted within thirty (30) days of the conclusion of the Event.

  • Any Event apparel purchased during registration will be sent to the Australian or New Zealand mailing address provided during registration. Apparel orders will commence being shipped from 18 October 2021.

  • enIQ Hydration & Recovery Packs purchased during registration are only available to be posted within Australia and will be sent out within 7 days of purchase.

  • Promotional codes may only be used where you meet the conditions applying to the promotional code and use the promotional code during its validity period. Promotional codes are not able to be redeemed or exchanged for cash and must only be used by the Participant(s) to whom the relevant code was issued to by the code owner. Promotional codes may not be used in conjunction with any other offer. USM Events reserves the right to modify, suspend and/or cancel any promotional code at any time without notice to Participants. No refunds will be made to Participants who have access to a promotional code but did not use the code at the time of purchase.

  • All purchases to participate in the Event are non-refundable, non-transferrable and non-exchangeable in the event of withdrawal or non-participation by the Participant (including circumstances where the Participant later finds that they do not having access to the City2Surf VR App or a compatible mobile device).

  • If you feel unwell in the lead up to or on race day, do not participate in the Event.

  • All Participants can take part in the City2Surf Virtual Run in their own time, in their own neighborhood. Importantly, Participants must observe and comply with all applicable laws and regulations in place during participation in the event, including those in relation to COVID-19 and public health. This may include limitations on geographical range and/or permitted exercise – please check with your relevant state health authority.

  • Participants are responsible for pre planning an appropriate and safe route in their local area prior to commencing, considering factors such as but not limited to access to hydration & toilets, shaded paths, and avoiding populated footpaths.

  • Participants must not use the official City2Surf course, and must not finish (or congregate) in Bondi Park or along Queen Elizabeth Drive.

  • Any Participants found to be violating public health orders or running the traditional City2Surf course will be disqualified from the Event, and their finisher goodies will not be provided. Participants must be aware of their surroundings and watch their footing for ramps, curbs and potential hazards.

  • Participants must observe normal traffic rules and obey all directions and instructions given by any event officials, the relevant state health authority and/or the police.

  • Participants must be aware that wearing earphones or other accessories can impair hearing and awareness of surroundings.

  • As with any physical activity, running has inherent risks as detailed in the Event Waiver. We recommend that you have your In Case of Emergency (ICE) features activated on your phone and communicate your whereabouts to your friends or family.

  • Should injury or emergency occur during your participation, please contact your local emergency services.

  • Participants are encouraged to warm up prior to participating.

  • To record an official result, you must have downloaded the City2Surf VR App from the Apple store or Google Play store onto a suitable smart device which has location tracking via GPS enabled. This means it will need to have either an iOs or android operating system and internet connectivity set up.

  • All Participants must carry their phone with them when participating in the Event. It is your responsibility to ensure you have downloaded the City2Surf VR App, claimed your entry and be ready to press ‘Start Race’. Please ensure your phone is fully charged with GPS tracking enabled.

  • Please warm up prior to selecting ‘Start Race’ on the City2Surf VR App. The CIty2Surf VR App cannot be paused once you commence timing your run.

  • An entry within the City2Surf VR App can only be claimed by the individual who holds the official Event registration.

  • You cannot complete the Event using fitness equipment (I.e treadmill) as GPS movement tracking is required to utilise the City2Surf VR App.

  • For Child entries without City2Surf VR App access, the finish time of the accompanying General Entry participant nominated during registration will be assigned to the Child. Please note there may be delays of up to 2 hours on race day for child entry results to show.

  • By participating in the Event and utilising the City2Surf VR App, each participant consents to USM Events Pty Ltd and the app provider, SPORTSPLITS ABN 43 102 329 224, collecting and publishing his or her timing data for the Event.

  • Participants acknowledge that if they select to become a member of a group, the group manager will have access to race registration information captured in the participant’s registration form, which includes the following personal information: name, date of birth, gender, email address, contact telephone number. Group Managers understand that their email address will be disclosed to their group members (but not to members of other teams).

  • To be eligible for an official finish time, Participants must commence and complete the course using the City2Surf VR App between 6:00am (AEDT) 17 October 2021 and 6:00pm (AEDT) on 24 October 2021.

  • All official placings are determined by the City2Surf VR App. Results are recorded from when the Participant starts the City2Surf VR App timing function to when the participant completes the 14km Event.

  • Any disputes to official results must be submitted to city2surf@ironman.com within 48 hours of the Event period ending at 6:00pm (AEDT) 24 October 2021.

Privacy Collection Statement:   USM Events collects your personal information for the administration of the Event and for future marketing and promotional purposes relating to USM Events events and/or the USM Events group of companies. Participants acknowledge that USM Events may disclose and use my personal information in accordance with IRONMAN Oceania's Event Privacy Policy and/or in accordance with these Event Rules.  USM Events may disclose your personal information to its related bodies corporate and any third parties involved in the Event, including service providers and any charities selected by you or USM Events.
